Three things to do in Virginia Beach with Kids!

You’ve come to the right place if you’re looking for things to do in Virginia Beach with kids! Living in Virginia Beach, we are surrounded by so much nature. It truly is a gift. I have narrowed down some of my favorite parks, beaches, and museums you and your little ones are sure to enjoy, so look no further and read on!

First Landing State Park

Located just outside Virginia Beach, this park offers recreational activities like cabins, yurts, campsites, boat ramps, and a camp store. This is also a massive park covering 2,888 acres and 1.5 miles of beach. Fun trivia: First Landing State Park was initially called Seashore State Park and was the first state park created in Virginia. This is the site where the first English colonists landed in 1607 before establishing the Jamestown settlement. Due to its popularity, this park can get heavily crowded during the summer months, so make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and lots of bug spray too! The foliage offers a bit of shade, but temperatures can soar during the peak of summer!
Tip: There is a $4 entrance fee per car on weekdays and $5 on weekends.
Address: 2500 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, Va 23451-1415

Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center

Formerly known as The Virginia Marine Science Museum, this aquarium was opened on June 14th, 1986. Its focus was primarily on the life found in Virginia and Chesapeake Bay’s rivers and marine waters. They have since expanded and have exhibits featuring reptiles, turtles, snakes, amphibians, and mammals not local to the area. The displays are categorized into two sections: Main Building and South Building. These two are connected by a mile outdoor nature trail running alongside Owls Creek Salt March and house more than 12,000 animals covering 700 species.
Tip: Military members and their families get a special rate with a valid id.

Norfolk Botanical Garden

Are you looking to have a peaceful stroll in a beautiful garden? Then look no further than Norfolk Botanical Garden. Technically, this is located in Norfolk but is right by the border of Virginia Beach. This garden was a product resulting from a collaboration between Thomas P. Thompson, a Norfolk City Manager, and a horticulturalist Frederic Heutte in 1938. With over 60 gardens to explore, this will entertain you and your children for hours. They have something for every season, and yes, even during Fall and Winter! Some of the flowers they have are Tulips, Pansies, Azaleas, Petunias, Juniper, Camellia, etc. It’s worth a visit!
