4 Virginia Beach Parks to Explore With Your Kids
Great Neck Park
Established in 1990, the Great Neck Park is a 70-acre piece of land located on the banks of Lynnhaven Bay. With four baseball fields, volleyball courts, and three basketball courts, you and your children can bring balls and bats to take advantage of the open game space. If you’re looking for a more relaxing way to spend your time, you can walk the shared-use paths through any of the park’s wooded areas. In addition, if you have younger children, you can spend a few hours of playtime at any one of the two covered playgrounds or the one uncovered playground on the property.
Did I mention that this property is excellent for events? This Virginia Beach park is home to four large group shelters with picnic tables and grills. The entire recreation center is always a popular place to use as well! Both are perfect for outdoor birthday parties at the park!

Red Wing Park
The Red Wing Park was formerly known as the “Old City Poor Farm” and was developed into a park by the city in 1966. This Virginia Beach park is home to many different gardens, including the Reba S. McClanan Fragrance Garden!
This park has two different playground areas for young children. Here, you can find therapeutic cradle swing sets and accessible playground areas. The Red Wing Park also has many wooded areas to explore and the Bee City USA Pollinator Garden.
If you want to do more than the typical excursions at a local park, you can take advantage of the many events and offerings at the park seasonally. This park has something for everyone and is home to some of the region’s top cultural, arts, and educational organizations. In addition, you can take advantage of the amphitheater to view live shows, take part in arts and crafts, and music shows!

Mount Trashmore Park
Mount Trashmore Park is the sister park to Haginodai Park in Japan and sits on 165 acres of land with two manufactured mountains, two lakes, two playgrounds, a skate park, a vert ramp, and multi-use paths. Fun fact – this park was the nation’s first landfill park (hence the name).
This location opened in the early 70s and is excellent for fishing and outdoor fun. The Virginia Beach park features therapeutic cradle sing seats, seasonal concessions, and varying-sized picnic areas for parties and events. In addition, you can rent sports and rubber playground balls to check out with a driver’s license.
The Kid Cove Playground opened in 2010 and is 26000 square feet. The vast, rubber-surfaced play structure has three different areas to play in and includes slides, walkway climbers, and wheelchair-accessible swings. That’s not all, though. Future phases of the park are still to come as new and improved swings, and sets are added.

Beach Garden Park
The Beach Garden Park is an 18-acre community park near the Oceanfront. This location features a large, open playing field you can utilize for parties and events. You can also bring your balls, bats, and outdoor games to play in the space.
If you want a traditional park experience, you can bring your kiddos to the park playground. Here, you will find walkways, slides, and an exploration tube. If you and your family are a little bit thirsty, you can head to the concession stands that are available seasonally.
